Hi I’m in middle east, I had a bf which is local resident. He asked me if I want to invest in his stock market to gain interest. So I gave him a total of 4,119 usd ( installment). After that he said after 6months he will give my money back aside from monthly 1% interest . Then after 2 months from the time I gave him the full amount he didn’t show up. I know it’s all my mistake to give a money with my full trust. But my only evidence that I got is the social network message. In this situation, can I have a claim?
Thanks…

FROM TERRY SAVAGE:  I think it will be very hard, if not impossible to get your money back.  You could write a threatening letter to this “bf” if you know where he is now — telling him that you are going to contact the local police.  And you could actually do that — file a complaint of theft in the town where he lives.   But I’m assuming that he lives far from you, and that you do not want to go to the expense of hiring a lawyer to sue him.  And it would, you are correct, be difficult to prove that this money was not a “gift” to him, which is what he would likely say if you could ever get him into civil court.

Your situation is a reminder that all financial transactions — even between boyfriend and girlfriend — should be legally documented for the protection of both!
